Ninh Binh Tours with Halal Food Options: A Comprehensive 2026 Guide I have spent considerable time investigating a question that I suspect many Muslim travelers and Indian tourists quietly wrestle with before booking a trip to northern Vietnam: can I actually find halal food on a Ninh Binh day tour? The short answer is yes … Read more
Where to Stay in Tam Coc, Ninh Binh: A Historian’s Area Guide for 2026 I have spent the better part of two decades travelling through northern Vietnam, and I can say with some confidence that the question of where one sleeps in Ninh Binh matters rather more than most guidebooks suggest. The difference between waking … Read more
Getting from Hanoi to Ninh Binh is a 93-kilometre journey that takes between 1.5 and 2.5 hours depending on your chosen method — and I have, over the past eight years of living in Hanoi, tested every one of them repeatedly. The four options are local bus (90,000–120,000 VND), limousine van (250,000–350,000 VND with hotel … Read more
In 2023, the Vietnamese government approved Decision No. 218/QD-TTg, designating Ninh Binh as a “direct-centrally governed city” by 2030 — a bureaucratic phrase that conceals one of Southeast Asia’s most ambitious heritage preservation projects. The ninh binh heritage city vision proposes to elevate an entire province from its current administrative status to a nationally significant … Read more
The phrase “best-kept secret” is deployed so carelessly in travel writing that it has been rendered almost meaningless — every destination from Mallorca to the Maldives has been called one. Ninh Binh in 2026, however, earns the designation through a statistical reality: while Halong Bay received 4.2 million visitors in 2025, and Sapa welcomed 3.1 … Read more
The question most travellers fail to ask about Northern Vietnam is not “Ninh Binh or Sapa?” but “Ninh Binh AND Sapa — in what order?” The two destinations complement each other with a precision that feels almost designed: lowland karst waterways against highland rice terraces, ancient imperial history against living ethnic cultures, flat cycling against … Read more
In 968 AD, the warlord Dinh Bo Linh chose Ninh Binh as Vietnam’s first imperial capital — a decision that presumably did not require a frequently asked questions document. Modern visitors, however, have questions that range from the practical (“How do I get there?”) to the philosophical (“Is the boat ride worth it at 14:00 … Read more
Is Ninh Binh worth visiting? Yes — and I say this as someone who has lived in Hanoi since 2018 and visited Ninh Binh province more than 120 times across all seasons, weather conditions, and states of personal enthusiasm. The province holds a UNESCO World Heritage Site that received 3.8 million visitors in 2025, Vietnam’s … Read more
On my third pre-dawn ascent of Mua Cave in September 2024, I arrived at the dragon statue viewpoint at 05:12 to find myself entirely alone — a circumstance that, by 06:30, had changed rather dramatically. The mua cave sunrise photography experience divides neatly into two categories: the transcendent solitude of being above the mist before … Read more
In 1010 AD, when Emperor Ly Thai To relocated Vietnam’s capital from Hoa Lu to Thang Long, he left behind a valley that would continue doing what it had done for three millennia: growing rice. The ninh binh rice fields that carpet the floor of this karst valley today are not merely photogenic — they … Read more
